Driverless Taxis in China – A Glimpse into the Future of Mobility

Driverless taxis in China are redefining urban mobility. Discover how advanced technology shapes the future of transportation.

Driverless taxis in China are no longer just an experiment – they are already part of everyday life. People pass by these vehicles as they move with perfect precision through heavy city traffic. It’s only a matter of time before such cars dominate the streets worldwide. Be prepared for a change that no one will be able to stop.

Mr. Glušac was driving through the streets of China when an autonomous taxi passed by him. The vehicle operated without a driver, moving through traffic without any issues. This experience was captured in a video you can watch here.

Encounter in traffic

While waiting at a traffic light, Mr. Glušac noticed an autonomous taxi moving next to him, smoothly following the rhythm of city traffic along with other vehicles driven by people. The car passed by, moving steadily and without any irregularities. At that moment, Mr. Glušac recorded a video showing how the vehicle operates in real traffic conditions.

As the autonomous taxi passed, people on the street watched and recorded it with their phones. Some stopped to get a better look, while others simply continued with their activities, already accustomed to its presence. There were no visible reactions of fear or surprise, indicating that such vehicles have already become part of everyday life in this part of China.

The technology behind the autonomous taxi

The autonomous taxi relies on advanced sensors and algorithms to recognize its surroundings, including LIDAR, cameras, and radars. These systems allow the vehicle to detect obstacles, recognize traffic signs, and react to changes in traffic without human intervention.

LIDAR is a sensor that uses laser beams to "sense" the environment and create a 3D map of the surroundings. It helps autonomous vehicles detect obstacles, other cars, and pedestrians, enabling the vehicle to move safely and precisely without a driver.

This experience shows the progress of autonomous vehicle technology in China. Although still in the testing phase, autonomous taxis are operating in real traffic conditions and are gradually becoming part of everyday life. The video recorded by Mr. Glušac provides insight into how these vehicles function in practice.
